I had been wanting to try this for a while!
I found this wonderful program: Camera Control which allowed me to have my camera automatically take a picture every minute.
Once I had the program it was just a matter of mounting my camera to a tripod, and Camera controller ran it through the USB port.
Below are pictures showing my progress - roughly 1 pic every hour. I did lose several minutes here and there (batteries running out, etc), so the total time working on the puzzle is about 18 hours.
