Xephyr has excellent instructions on how to remove the top of the air filter box, and the air filter. The only hard part is getting that rubber spring-clamped tube off the top of the filter box. I just jammed a screwdriver inbetween them and lifted it off.

This is the half covered yellow screw that Xephyr called 'in an awkward position' that earned him a Pulitzer Prize for Biggest Understatement in literature.
This is a closeup of where his arrow is pointing. To the lower right is the bottom of the air filter box.

You pretty much need to be plastic man to pull that one out .....

If you have a long extension (8" or so) for your socket wrench, you can jam that down there and undo the bolt and skip the next few steps.
